Product Description

NALCOOL 2000 combines film-forming corrosion inhibitors with a scale suppressant in liquid form, for ease of application. NALCOOL 2000 is soluble in water in all proportions. NALCOOL 2000 does not contain chromates.

Product Uses

NALCOOL 2000 has been designed for use in all common types of engine cooling system. NALCOOL 2000 will protect ferrous metals, copper and copper alloys and all other metals including aluminium components. NALCOOL 2000 will not affect rubber gaskets or other non-metallic components within the cooling system. NALCOOL 2000 is particularly suitable for the coolant in small auxiliary diesel engines containing aluminium components.

NALCOOL 2000 is easy to apply as received, and is fully compatible with water in ethylene glycol solutions. It contains an anti-scalent which helps to keep engine systems clean and free from corrosion and scale formation. NALCOOL 2000 maintains design heat transfer efficiencies and extends the life of the engine.

Application, Dosage and Control

Engine cooling systems should be drained, flushed and if necessary, chemically cleaned, to remove old rust and scale deposits before treatment with NALCOOL 2000 is begun. Cases of unusual coolant loss should be checked and remedial action taken.

NALCOOL 2000 should be introduced during circulation of the cooling water. NALCOOL 2000 is best added by means of a feeder installed on a by-pass to the circulating system or, in smaller systems, it can be added directly to the header tank.

Initial treatment is at a rate if 1 litre of NALCOOL 2000 per 32 litres of coolant. Thereafter, the procedures are as follows:

1. Engine systems that contain less than 100 litres of coolant. NALCOOL 2000 should be added at a rate of 0.5 litre per system every month.
2. Engine systems that contain more than 100 litres of coolant. In these systems it is necessary to ensure that the level of sodium nitrite is tested weekly and that NALCOOL 2000 is added as required to maintain the reserve in excess of the minimum. The sodium nitrite reserve should be kept above 1000 ppm. If the reserve falls below this figure, then NALCOOL 2000 should be added, in the proportion of 0.7 litres NALCOOL 2000 per 100 litres of coolant. The system should then be allowed to circulate and the above test procedure repeated until a satisfactory reserve is obtained.

Overdosing with NALCOOL 2000 is not harmful to the system. Control by a simple test for nitrite and pH. Your Nalflloc Representative will provide details of the test method and the test kit available.

Packaging, Handling, First Aid and Storage.

NALCOOL 2000 is normally supplied in drums containing 25 or 200 litres. NALCOOL 2000 is alkaline. Contact may cause eye injury and skin irritation. Avoid contact with eyes and prolonged or repeated contact with the skin. Do not take internally.

In case of contact wash affected skin with plenty of water. Flush eyes immediately with copious amounts of clean water for at least 15 minutes and obtain medical attention. If swallowed do not induce vomiting, give plenty of water to drink and call a doctor immediately.

N.B. Do not give an unconscious person anything to drink. Store NALCOOL 2000 securely in a dry area. Keep containers closed when not in use. Recommended storage limit in unopened drums is 2 years.
